HİDROMEK Marks Heavy Machinery Chassis Serial Numbers with Dotpeenator

HİDROMEK manufactures excavators and backhoe loaders at its facilities in Ankara. In the production flow, each machine starts with the assembly of chassis components; once the painted chassis is transferred to transport carts, the step arrives where the machine gains its identity: chassis number marking.

This number must remain on the machine throughout its entire lifespan. Since registration, traceability, and warranty tracking depend on this number, the marking must be legible, permanent, and repeatable. HİDROMEK applies this process to every machine produced.

Chassis numbers are marked on structural components located in the front section of the machine, which feature extremely hard cross-sections. These areas present significant marking challenges due to both material hardness and restricted accessibility.

Previously, HİDROMEK applied these numbers using manual hand stamps. With manual punching, character alignment, depth, and legibility depend entirely on the operator's strike; for long chassis numbers, the process is time-consuming and results can vary from machine to machine.

HİDROMEK deployed the Dotpeenator PR94 portable marking unit for chassis number marking, followed by a second unit, the PR144. Both units operate with the same Dotpeenator SA14 controller, allowing operators to learn a single interface and switch between units without extra training.

The portable design reverses the workflow logic: instead of moving the heavy workpiece to a marking machine, the marking unit is brought directly to the part. The unit is wheeled up to the chassis on its mobile cart; the marking head is positioned and clamped into the tight clearance on the chassis using a custom mounting bracket.

Long chassis numbers are entered via the SA14 screen; once the operator inputs the text, the marking cycle completes automatically.

Because characters created with the dot-peen method are engraved into the material through plastic deformation, they remain unaffected by surface treatments, wear, and harsh field conditions. This was the decisive factor for HİDROMEK: the number never wears off and remains legible throughout the machine's lifetime.

At the same time, cycle times were reduced, and results became operator-independent. A long chassis number is now completed in a single marking cycle, with consistent depth and perfect alignment.
